Yellow Jacket
Reflections of an impulse shopper.
Her eye was immediately drawn to the yellow. There were so many colours clamouring for attention. She had walked in with no-nonsense determination. She was on a schedule.
A new jacket had been on her mind for some time. Though, as she had told herself many times, her current jacket was fine. The zipper pull was a functional binder clip. The soothing pale blue was long covered in a grime that would not release its stubborn hold. And the grimy pale blue binder clip jacket held many sentimental memories.
This is how she ended up with a closet full of jackets, all sentimentally valuable, but she always had that worn out look.
And today was the day. She had a few extra minutes. She was determined.
She anticipated memories. She loved the bright cheer. The audacity of wearing bright yellow. The impracticality of it because surely grime would accumulate.
She opted for a safe dark green. Goes with everything. Go-away green Disney call it. Fade into the background.
Mixed feelings of practicality vs joyful yellow. She removed the tag. She wore the jacket with the comfy pockets and dirt masking colour. Two weeks later, the jacket hangs, in all its functional glory, with the other coats.
Plenty of time for joy ahead. And practicality.
